Ngungwe Luxury CampDescription & Location

On the shores of Lake Tanganyika on a long stretch of golden sandy beach under the magnificent Mahale Mountains range lies Nkungwe Luxury Tented Camp overlooking the crystal clear waters of the lake, the breathtaking sunsets, the magnificent Mountains of Congo and the beautiful spectacle of a fishing fire spread across the lake at night. The term Nkungwe refers to the highest peak on the Mahale Mountains ranges, and the camp is built to epitomize the magnificence of the whole park. Mahale Mountains National Park is so pristine and remote that even after having been visited by famous personalities such as Bill Gates, its still remains away from the mainstream attention, which makes it even more attractive to visit.

Accommodation
Nkungwe Camp tents are made of heavy-duty canvas material with ample space to relax and walk around. The tent is well ventilated with zip down gauze windows and roll up flap doors. All the tents are facing Lake Tanganyika, and most of them are raised on wooden platforms to enhance the view.
The décor has been specifically chosen to give you the African Safari experience. Most of the décors were locally manufactured

Each tent at Nkungwe Camp contains two single wooden beds with firm mattresses; these beds can be used as twin or double. Other furnishings in the tent include a writing desk and chair, bedside table, lamp and clothes rack. To the rear of each unit are en-suite hot water shower and flush toilet. The deck has two comfortable safari chairs and a small table, which enables you to have a perfect view of the lake and the sunsets. The units are adequately spaced apart to ensure your privacy.

Dining & Cuisine
Meals at the camp are a sumptuous affair: breakfasts are English style with emphasis on tropical fruits and juices. Lunches are usually light. Evening meals are three courses. The specialty at Nkungwe Tented Camp is the Sangara, Kuhe, Mgebuka and Dagaa fish caught fresh from Lake Tanganyika by the local fishermen. Guests are also served traditional African dishes such as Coconut Banana Meat Stew and Cassava chips.

The Camp is situated between Kasiha and Sinsiba streams. Nkungwe - a large reception area situated on the beach is made out of local wood and thatched roof with a wooden deck raised above the ground. The building also accommodates the mess, a library, an information center, a curio shop, a bar as well as the lounge. To the south of this building is a relaxation hut that you are free to use at leisure. This relaxation hut faces Lake Tanganyika. It has reclining chairs, and is very ideal for siestas. For the not so energetic, Mahale Mountains Beach has locally made cushioned lounge beds for you to laze on.
