Description & Location
At the heart of Maasailand, east of the Great African Rift Valley, lies a Tarangire National Park of wild beauty and diverse natural history. Tarangire’s ecosystem - rolling landscape combined with the wildlife concentrations in the dry-seasons has endeared this area to visitors seeking solitude and spectacle.
Oliver's Camp is situated on Tarangire’s eastern side of the National Park: it's a wild side. Opened in 1992 and relocated to the park's semi-wilderness area in 2001, Oliver's Camp is ideally placed to access the yearly migrations of wildlife throughout the Tarangire ecosystem, and to view the impressive concentrations at waterholes for a five to six month season each year. Being in the wilderness zone allows Oliver's Camp the freedom to offer walking excursions close to the camp, as well as longer walking adventures in the endless woodlands and plains habitat that surrounds the area. Carefully planned off road driving in the camp's open vehicles is another privilege enjoyed by guests visiting the area, something that is not readily available in other National Parks in northern Tanzania. Accommodation There are only eight guest tents are available. The sleeping tents comprise twin bedded tents, three bedded tent containing a large double bed plus an additional single bed (the remotest of these larger tents is perfect for honeymooners). This allows Oliver's Camp the flexibility to cater for families, couples and mixed groups comfortably and sensitively. Most of the tents are sited well apart from each other, while two are closer to each other for families and groups of friends. Solid wooden furniture, beautiful cloth and practical en suite facilities are expertly maintained in each of the eight sleeping tents. Bathroom facilities at Oliver's Camp are bucket style with long drop eco-toilets. Dining & Cuisine Dining style at Oliver's Camp in Tarangire is open air dining in style with freshly prepared fine food and excellent wine. Drinks and library tents offer a relaxing break after open vehicle or on-foot adventures out in the surrounding Tarangire ecosystem. The focal point of the camp each evening is still the stone fireplace, which is close to the library, sitting and dining tents. From here the views are superb. There is no better forum for relaxed conversation and animated reflection on the day's activities, and no safari is complete without such an experience.
